We are Sportsmen For Heroes

MISSION
Founded in 2011, Sportsmen For Heroes is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing healing and empowerment through the outdoors. We create meaningful outdoor experiences for veterans and youth with special needs, giving them the opportunity to enjoy nature, build confidence, and connect with a supportive community.

Through hunting adventures and outdoor programs, we honor the service and sacrifices of our heroes while helping participants experience the physical, mental, and emotional benefits that time in the outdoors can provide. Our goal is simple: to create unforgettable experiences that inspire, restore, and bring people together through the power of the outdoors.

MEANINGFUL
WORK
Sportsmen For Heroes provides outdoor experiences for veterans, first responders, and mobility impaired youth through guided and adaptive hunting opportunities. These programs create meaningful moments, build confidence, and help participants experience the power of the outdoors.

With the support of our volunteers, sponsors, and community partners, we also provide opportunities for youth who are disabled or facing mobility challenges to safely enjoy the outdoors and create lasting memories.

INTERVIEW WITH SPORTSMEN FOR HEROES FOUNDER SONNY TAPIA: JAXON "The Legend".
I met this young man and instantly he was a breath of fresh air, being a young boy dealing with an awful disease. Jax never quit smiling, Jax is special, beyond belief. Each day that we spent with Jax gave us a reality check reminding us that we take a lot for granted. On August 13, 2023, we were fortunate to walk Jax to the ridge where his bear awaited him. I have been part of many bear harvests, but this one, beat them all, hands down,

Jax never let his disability slow him down and I promise you, he is going to continue to thrive in any situation. - Sonny Tapia

A BIG HEART IN A LITTLE HERO: CHARLEY'S STORY
Meet Charley, a determined 10-year-old living with TAR syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects the bones in the forearm and causes a low platelet count. Despite facing many medical challenges and undergoing five major leg surgeries, Charley never lets anything hold her back. She dreams of becoming a kindergarten teacher and loves being a caring “little mom” to her six siblings.
When Charley received her first elk tag, it was a dream come true. With the support of Sportsmen For Heroes, she experienced an unforgettable outdoor adventure and successfully completed her hunt, reminding us all that even the smallest heroes can have the biggest hearts.
