Hunting Tag Transfers & Donations
Understanding Arizona Hunting Tag Transfers & Donations
We at Sportsmen for Heroes, we often receive questions about what to do if you draw a hunting tag but are unable to use it. Below is a clear overview of your options under current Arizona Game and Fish Department regulations: If you draw a tag and cannot participate in the hunt, you may:
1. Retain the Tag You may choose to take no action; however, the tag will go unused.
2. Transfer to a Youth Family Member You may transfer your tag to your child or grandchild (ages 10–17 at the time of transfer). • The recipient may turn 18 after the transfer is complete. • Youth under age 14 must have completed hunter education requirements. • Be sure to review all eligibility details on the AZGFD website.
3. Surrender the Tag (with Point Guard) If you purchased Point Guard, you may surrender your tag back to AZGFD: • Your bonus points will be restored, plus one additional point. • The tag may be reissued to the next eligible applicant, depending on timing. • Without Point Guard, tags cannot be surrendered to AZGFD under current law.
4. Donate the Tag You may donate your tag to an approved nonprofit organization: • Donations are allowed with or without Point Guard. • If Point Guard was purchased, you will receive your bonus points back plus one. • You may also request a donation receipt for tax purposes.
